Our content ranges from long-form docu-style pieces to short-form interviews and skits that help market our authors and books across our website and social media platforms. Candidates should have an eye for visual storytelling, strong technical skills and a passion for creating engaging video content. **Overview** We are seeking a creative and technically skilled Videographer/Video Editor to join the Video Department at Simon & Schuster. This freelance role is essential for bringing our authors and books to life through engaging, high-quality video content that drives publicity, book sales, and reader engagement across social media. **Key Responsibilities** **Production:** + Work closely with the in-house Video Team to shoot, light and monitor audio for high-quality video content (author interviews, behind-the-scenes content, event coverage (book signings, literary festivals)), and short-form social content (TikTok/Reels book reviews, skits, author messages). + Assist in set up and break down (cameras, lighting, audio gear) for in studio and on location shoots **Post-Production:** + Edit and assemble raw footage into finished, polished videos suitable for various digital platforms (YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, etc.). + Apply professional editing techniques, including motion graphics (title cards, lower thirds), color correction, and sound mixing. + Strategically integrate book cover art, interior images, and brand elements into video content. + Incorporate feedback from stakeholders efficiently while managing multiple projects and deadlines. + Ensure all videos adhere to brand standards, legal compliance (especially concerning music and image rights), and platform-specific requirements. **Qualifications** + 2+ years of professional experience in videography and video editing, ideally within a publishing, media, or entertainment company. + Proven expertise in operating professional video cameras and associated lighting/audio equipment. + Expert proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Premiere Pro and After Effects. + Strong portfolio or reel demonstrating a range of video styles, including documentary, promotional, and short-form social content. + Exceptional visual storytelling skills, with a keen eye for detail, composition, and pacing. + Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple concurrent projects tied to various deadlines + Enthusiasm for emerging video trends, techniques, and technologies in digital marketing and social media, especially short-form vertical video (Reels, TikTok). + Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as production demands require. + A strong passion for books and literature is desired but not required. **This is a freelance, project-based role.
